The Brown Chunky Braided Wool Rug from Lav & Lira is handwoven by skilled artisans in India. From 100% virgin natural wool — chunky, tactile, and built to get more beautiful with every year. It lives in your home. This is not a rug you replace. It is a rug you keep.

What Makes This Rug Different

Most rugs are flat. This one has architecture.

The chunky braided construction combines two weaving techniques — a thick loop weave and a hand-braided pattern — creating a surface that catches light differently from every angle. Walk across it barefoot and you feel real wool underfoot: dense, cushioned, and genuinely soft in a way that synthetic fibres never are.

The warm brown tone — earthy, rich, and naturally warm — works in any room that values warmth over sterility. It anchors a pale Scandinavian interior. It grounds a modern farmhouse living room. It adds depth to a boho bedroom that already has too much colour and needs one neutral statement to settle everything down.

It is, in short, the rug that makes a room feel finished.

Handwoven in India. Made to Last a Lifetime.

Every Lav & Lira rug begins as raw natural wool and is finished entirely by hand. No machines. No shortcuts. Our artisans in India's Varanasi weaving belt — home to one of the world's oldest rug-making traditions — spend weeks on each piece.

Material: 100% virgin natural wool

Construction: Hand woven — chunky loop and braided combination weave

Pile height: Dense and cushioned — substantial underfoot

Backing: Woven

Colour: Warm brown with natural tonal variation (slight shade variation of 5–8% is normal in natural undyed wool — it is a feature, not a flaw). Natural wool is naturally flame-resistant, hypoallergenic, and self-cleaning to a degree.

A well-cared-for wool rug from Lav & Lira.

This Rug Works In:

Living Room    Place under your coffee table with all sofa legs on the rug for a fully anchored look. The brown tones work beautifully with grey sofas, cream walls, and natural wood.

Bedroom    Position at the foot of the bed or on both sides. The dense pile feels luxurious as a morning landing — softer than cold hardwood.

Farmhouse & Rustic Spaces    The chunky braided texture is tailor-made for farmhouse interiors. Pair with shiplap, reclaimed wood, and linen to complete the look. Scandinavian & Hygge Spaces    Warm brown tones and handwoven texture are the definition of hygge. This rug belongs in a space with candles, throws, and a good book.

Boho & Eclectic Rooms    Layer this under a smaller patterned rug, or let it stand alone

as the calm anchor in a room full of colour and pattern.

Interior Designers    We offer trade pricing and custom sizing for all project types.

Caring for Your Lav & Lira Wool Rug

Natural wool is one of the easiest materials to care for — here is all you need to know:

Regular care:  Vacuum on low suction, no beater bar. Rotate the rug every 3 months so it

wears evenly and stays looking fresh.

Spills:  Blot immediately with a clean dry cloth. Never rub. Cold water and a small amount

of mild soap for most stains. Always blot, never scrub. Deep cleaning:  Professional cleaning every 2–3 years is ideal for long-term care.

Do not machine wash. Do not bleach.

A note on shedding: Natural wool rugs shed a small amount for the first few weeks.

This is completely normal and stops on its own. It is a sign of real wool, not a defect.

Care information

Proper care and maintenance are essential to keep your beautiful rug looking its best for years to come. Here are some expert tips to ensure its longevity:

  1. Spot-clean as necessary: If you encounter a small stain or spill, address it promptly. Gently blot the affected area using a moist (not wet) cloth and plain water. Avoid using soap or other cleaning agents, as they may cause fading or damage to the rug's fibers.

  2. Vacuum with care: When it comes to regular vacuuming, opt for a suction-only attachment or setting. Avoid using bristle brushes as they can pull and damage the rug's delicate fibers. By vacuuming regularly, you'll help prevent the buildup of dirt and debris that can harm the rug over time.

  3. Seek professional help for deeper stains: For larger or deeper stains that are beyond your control, it's best to consult a specialized company with experience in cleaning beautiful rugs. They have the expertise and tools to handle stubborn stains without causing any harm to the rug's appearance.

  4. Handle loose yarns carefully: If you notice any loose yarns or snags on the rug's surface, avoid pulling them. Instead, use sharp scissors to carefully clip them to the same level as the pile height. This prevents further damage and keeps your rug looking neat and well-maintained.

  5. Rotate the rug regularly: To prevent uneven fading and wear, rotate your rug every three months. This simple step ensures that all areas of the rug receive equal exposure to light and foot traffic, promoting a more balanced aging process and extending its lifespan.

  6. Utilize a rug pad: We highly recommend using a rug pad underneath your rug. Not only does it provide extra cushioning and comfort, but it also helps prevent slipping and sliding. Additionally, a rug pad acts as a protective barrier, reducing friction between the rug and the floor, thus prolonging the life of your rug.

By following these care instructions, you'll be able to maintain the beauty and quality of your rug for years to come. Remember, proper maintenance and attention to detail are key to preserving its unique charm and ensuring it remains a stunning centerpiece in your space.
